Last Rooster Post (I hope)

Well we thought we were just about done with this rooster, animal control finally came yesterday and dropped off a trap – problem was it was WAY too small for a rooster, it has however caught 2 squirrels already.  So Ryan pulled out Fitz’s unused dog kennel and a blanket, caught it with the help from a neighbor and it spent the night in the kennel.  All ready for him to get picked up today I called animal control… and the guy is out sick 🙁

So IF he’s in tomorrow he’ll come get it, in the meanwhile one more day of rooster crowing (now on our porch) and I put out water and some corn for the poor guy.

Beyonce's temporary condo

I’m sure our neighbors are loving this as well and Fitz tried to play with him when we came back in this morning, poor thing went crazy being that close to the dog (I have since pushed the kennel back further from the door).  This morning not only did I have Fitz poking me to wake up but I had a rooster crowing – guess what I’m never going to own – a rooster – maybe chickens some day but never a rooster!

Rooster tales

4:30 am – that’s what time Beyonce decided to wake us up this morning – and he didn’t stop crowing, just kept it up.  At one point Ryan scared it off with a broom for a short while (very short lived).  He slept on our porch last night…

Beyonce sleeping (actually ended up facing in toward the window most of the night.

And yes he pooped all over my window sill and that chair.  I can’t wait for Animal control to come and put out a humane trap for him today – i really hope he gets caught before I get woken up again.

Knock knock

I won’t finish the title but any bloggess fans out there know what that is supposed to be… we had a visit from Beyonce the Rooster (again a bloggess reference) and it is not leaving evidently.

Sunday morning (our last day of a long weekend, with big plans to sleep in – add to that I’m sick and barely slept Sat night) – 8am – cockle-doodle-doo!  For 30 minutes straight!  I finally took Fitz outside and there’s a freakin rooster IN OUR YARD.

Beonce makes an appearance in NH

We ‘scared’ it a house down but it kept coming back all day.   It likes our yard/house for some reason, hanging out on each side (including the driveway), front, back, luckily not the porch itself yet.  This morning 8am – the wake up call sounded again until I took Fitz out and we scared him away again.  Fitz really wants to eat the rooster 🙂

I slept great last night thank goodness, I’m feeling worlds better today (which doesn’t mean much since I felt like an elephant was sitting on my face all day yesterday – my eye balls themselves even hurt – it was horrible :().  Today I at least feel like a human with a cold so I’m going to sleep some more and relax today, hopefully by tomorrow doing a 10 hour day on the computer won’t be agony (so far 10 minutes isn’t great but I had to email work).

Oh yea about Beyonce, I called Animal control yesterday (which is actually closed on Sunday so it was just the police) but they said animal control doesn’t do roosters – only dogs, skunks and racoons!  Not helpful at all.  She said we could call fish and game and maybe they would do something so i might do that now – i don’t want it still around by next weekend when i’m trying to sleep in again.

Thanksgiving

Had a great thanksgiving with all the family. And the girls got to play with little jason finally:

Unfortunately the weekend didn’t end great, by Saturday my allergies were turning into a sinus infection and Saturday night I couldn’t sleep even with benedryl (I miss nyquil!). Sunday I just laid around all day taking tylenol when I could and going through a few boxes of tissues. Unfortunately I think I’m in for the same tonight and I think I’ll be skipping work tomorrow now that a cough is starting too 🙁 hopefully this cold passes quickly and doesn’t turn into asthma like last year.

Happy Thanksgiving

I’m all ready to head back to NY for Thanksgiving!  Pies are done (8 pies!), dog is clean – finally! truck is almost packed and just a little work left to do.

Spent the morning making pies, I had an extra crust and extra chocolate than planned so this year I did..

2 lemon meringue to start (they need the most time in the fridge before travel)

Pumpkin pie (plus a little pumpkin pudding for Ryan) 🙂

2 Apple pies (one with a crumb top because I had one extra crust)

3 chocolate pies (pre-made cookie crusts so these are easy!)

Fridge full of pies!
Apple pies cooling!

I just have to figure out where to fit them all into the truck, and then move them all to the car after I meet up with Ryan.  Poor Fitz is now mad at me because he had to have a bath – he was getting so bad he was bothering my allergies.  At least I used the bath tub so he got warm water which is a change (usually he gets hosed in the yard).

Now I just have to get some work done and head out maybe by 4?  Not looking forward to the drive in traffic.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone – see you on the flip side!

Productive weekend

We had a very full weekend!  Saturday morning we cut up the branches from the halloween storm and took them to the dump.  Then we worked on the built-ins – first installing the bookcases and then building and installing the face frames for the bookcases.  They look great and will look even better once the crown molding is installed across the top, it will really tie it into the rest of the room.

Bookcases with face frames installed!

The bookcases just need to be sanded and then primed and painted before we can install the shelves (which are adjustable and need to be ‘built’ still 🙂

We ended the day by taking out the last 3 livingroom windows and getting them sanded/prepped and primed on both sides.  This is a very tedious task and luckily with both of us working on this we got them done by 10 I think, just in time to pass out for the night 🙂

Last three windows installed after getting primed and painted!

Sunday I cleaned up the livingroom (since the built-in work gets kind of messy/dusty) and then put the first coat of paint on the outsides of the windows while Ryan bagged up some of the leaves in the yard (this is a huge project and needs to get done before it snows again!).

Then since I had the paint out and the driveway side of the house really needed a new coat of trim paint (some damage from a fallen branch and I believe 2 of the window casings never got a second coat last year), I first cleaned (with a wet cloth) all of the trim on the driveway side and then gave it a fresh coat of yellow paint – just before dark.

A second and third (depending on the part) coat of paint on the trim - ready for winter!

It was getting late so I couldn’t take too long of a break for dinner before getting the final coat of paint on the exterior of the livingroom windows – that itself goes very fast (about an hour I think).  While I was doing all this painting, Ryan was working on hinges/doors for the built-ins.  He created a jig and then routed out the spots for the hinges for the cabinet doors.  He got 4 of the 8 doors installed although they still need to be trimmed to have a matching gap all around but so far so good!

2 of the 4 cabinets have doors installed!

We also looked up what we have to do to build all the drawers for these built-ins (10 drawers that we have hardware for).  It’s a LOT of work and I think we want to order a jig that will save some time on installing the lock mechanisms at least.  The drawers are inside the cabinets so at least we don’t have to line up the face frames or anything.  The slides are Blum Tandem plus Blumotion (they have slow close and are full extension).  If we like them we’ll use the same for our kitchen drawers when we do that renovation ‘someday’ 🙂

We ended the evening by putting the windows back in.  The best part was that between painting the final coat and putting them back in I ‘had’ to take a 5 hour break 🙂  So I read – currently reading Tasha Alexander’s ‘Tears of Pearl’.  I accidentally read the 5th in this series and this is the 4th so I had to go back and read it of course.  Almost done and need to pick something new to read over Thanksgiving!

Harvest

Well the veggie garden was miniscule this year and I completely forgot about my carrots!  Although they were still doing just fine, I finally pulled them up this morning and this was what I got:

Baby Carrots?

Hehe, I don’t think the carrots liked the raised bed, probably would do better in the regular garden where they could grow deeper.  All well, i’ll give these a try for lunch and see how they came out.

Looking forward to cleaning up branches and the yard this weekend if the weather is still good and maybe getting those last 3 windows painted!

Weekend

Not as productive as some weekends, Ryan got very little sleep last week (getting up at 5am is definitely rough) and I was exhausted which meant I got a headache AGAIN on Sunday – fun times.

Anyhow, we did get some work done 🙂  Saturday we recycled half of the aluminum we’ve been storing, then drove over to my uncle’s house to get more scrap metal from him (including our old engine from the BMW) and recycle that – got back to the recycle just before it closed.  So now the snow blower can fit under the back porch again this winter – yippee – instead of just out like it is right now.

I’m pretty sure that’s about all we did on Saturday unless you count catching up on lots of tv shows on Hulu and finding some new ones 🙂  Sunday we got a nice early start thanks to Fitz wanting to get up at 8am on a SUNDAY.  Ryan got to work on his second bookcase and got it put together…

Bookcases in place, not yet installed and still need face frames. The shelves will be adjustable so those go in very last.

Then Ryan installed the copper above the diningroom windows (and even soldered the joints as best he could in the wind).  While he did the copper I raked the side yard (had to stay close to hand him tools etc).  I also raked the back yard but only the side yard actually got the piles bagged up – Fitz decided to play in one of my back yard piles and pee on another – lovely.

Copper on the windows, can't wait to do the panels above the windows...

The rest of Sunday we relaxed some more (headache) – I read Inheritance and finished it up!  I don’t remember for sure but I think it’s better than Brisingr and definitely better than Eragon and Eldest were (and I enjoyed them all).  The story is complete and satisfying and I didn’t have to stay up late reading at all since I spent most of sunday reading 🙂  So goodbye to Eragon and his friends/family, it was quite a journey!

Working from home today because headache yesterday turned into migraine last night and only sleeping late helped, so to make up time I skipped the commute and stayed home to get all the work done 🙂

Inheritance

Things may be slow around here for a while, got a new book in the mail from pre-order so I completely forgot it was coming…

Evening plans are mostly on hold while I finish up this ‘story’ that I’ve been waiting to finish for years now! It works out great, been fighting headaches lately and reading never bothers my head!
