Happy Easter

We had a relaxing weekend with family mixed in with some work on the house. Today was a very long day for myself and I’m curled up on the couch finally, just counting down the minutes until I can fall asleep!

Friday my parents came out in the afternoon. Dad and Ryan made a door frame for the bathroom and hung the door. Dad continued to work on the door, finally even fixing the latch so a door that didn’t work before now works perfectly with the original hardware! I still need to strip down the door.

Saturday we spent the day and evening with the extended family. We had dinner over at Uncle Pete’s with everyone. It’s been 3 months since we all got together so there was a lot of catching up to do.

Sunday my siblings headed out after a late morning breakfast. Dad continued to fix doors (the upstairs bathroom this time) so they close correctly now. I got the gym sanded so Dad could take home his scaffolding.

After Mom and Dad left we changed the oil in the both the car and truck (went a little long on that one!). The I cleaned the house (since i’m allergic to dogs I generally clean after everyone leaves instead of before they come 🙂 ). Finally I finished the night by vacuuming the gym so it’s ready to be primed. I’m exhausted, having started my morning with a run with PJ, I ache everywhere by now!

A weekend at my sister’s house

My family converged on my sister this weekend. Both to celebrate my brother‘s upcoming birthday and to work on her house a bit. They renovated their upstairs bathroom and they’re down to finishing details. Ryan helped with some tiling in the shower while my dad worked on making and putting up the trim (around window/door and baseboards). It really looks great and just needs some paint.

I wish there was more time – more long weekends available, I’d love to go down more often to see progress and help out with painting and everything. And I wish I took some pictures so I could post the progress so far!

Xmas weekend

This weekend found us back home with family, no working on the house, no working in general, it was very relaxing.

Now we are fully recovered from work stress and ready to enjoy our vacation this coming week by working on the house!  Taping and spackling to be exact 🙂

I had a very high tech Christmas this year – Ryan got me a Kindle reader which I was very excited to start playing with right away and I plan to go look for a new book to read on it shortly!  My parents got me a photo printer that prints 12×12 size pages for scrapbooking!  My in-laws got me preserving supplies so I can make jams/jellies and sauces this coming summer – I’m VERY excited about that.

The entertainment over the long weekend consisted mostly of new Wii games.  My sister got Band Hero which we tried out right away and my parents got Rock Band 2 and Beatles Rockband which also got some major play time.  My brother got Mario Brothers which is great multiplayer and we tried out the Hasbro Family Game Night (1 and 2)  when we were sick of playing music.  Fun was had by all.

Tomorrow we head home early to unpack and relax and prep for working on the house come Monday!

Happy Birthday Aimee (belated)

We went home this weekend to celebrate Aimee’s birthday. We drove back Friday night and came back home Sunday. I was able to squeeze in about an hour of raking leaves on Sunday before it got too dark but man are there a LOT of leaves!

The weekend was great, just relaxing with the family. And by family I mean lots of family, we saw my grandparents, Ryan’s parents and my immediate family. Unfortunately I’ve been sick (a bad cough) but other than a cough I’m feeling fine.

Oh and we got to use the new bedroom over the garage! It looks great and was quite comfortable!

Loggins and Messina

This past weekend Ryan had to work all weekend. This left me to my own devices so Saturday I headed out with friends for some shopping!

Saturday night I worked on the house, running some electrical wires for the tv room, doing everything I could do without a second person or a jigsaw 🙂 Things are really coming together and the plans are done for the wiring so I’m excited. Here’s a picture that includes most of the wiring I did:

Then on Sunday I headed down to CT. Aimee, Mom and I went and saw Loggins & Messina at Foxwoods! We had a great time, it being my first real concert (unless you count Tran-Siberian Orchestra which was a totally different experience). It was loud (which is why I generally avoid concerts) but I loved it and we sang along to each song we knew!

Camping

Labor day weekend continued the tradition of camping at Knox with the family. We all met up at home Friday night and headed out Saturday to Knox. This year was very relaxing, I think everyone needed a break from being busy.

Most notably, Jovi had her first swim!

First she was dropped in by the dock to see if she could swim (easily rescued if she couldn’t)! We learned she could but really didn’t want to – she would rush right out of the pond immediately!

Here she is getting curious – because Shadow is happily playing fetch without her in the pond!

And finally a swim – I actually got her on video too.Jovi swimming

A weekend away

We spent last weekend down at Aimee’s house installing some new outlets and light fixtures on their second floor (bedrooms). The only downside was that the work was in the attic and the attic was the hottest room of the house – and the humidity sure didn’t help! But it was a good time, working with my Dad, brother-in-law and husband we got all the electrical done they wanted. My sister and mom bought some new plants and really filled out their garden beds. Ryan also took down a small pine tree for them that was leaning over the garage. All in all a very productive weekend.

Since then we’ve been working on stripping paint from siding. I got 3 pieces done Monday night and we got 6 pieces done last night. Doesn’t sound like much but it really is – considering we only have about an hour each evening. We’re stripping the paint and filling the nail holes. This weekend we’ll hit them with the sander quick and then put a coat of primer on them hopefully. That’s the plan anyway.

And we’re really crossing our fingers that our new windows come soon so that the following weekend we can install them! Speaking of which I should email Marvin Windows and see if they know anything.

Family Weekend (4th of July post-poned)

A family filled weekend. Last week I managed to get all the sewing done that I had planned as well as the new door we ordered finished. Friday I baked the 4th of July cake which was great fun (I love decorating!).

Saturday the family arrived, my Dad started immediately to work on the new door installation with Ryan’s help and Sunday we finished it up. Now we have a lovely new door on the side of the house! I’m very excited and we have a plan for the coming weeks/weeekends for getting ready to install the windows we ordered.

LOTS of work ahead but things are happening so it’s very encouraging.
