Long weekend (felt long anyway)…

We got a lot done this weekend – and quite a bit of relaxing time too so the weekend stretched out nicely.

Friday night Ryan helped me spackle the ceiling so we got the seams all taped on the ceiling (and 2 of the ceiling corners). Then I got the first half of a coat on the wall corners and a second coat on the wall seams.

Saturday we went shopping for the plywood for the built ins! There’s a lumber yard in Brentwood so we drove over there, got the plywood and checked out their hardwood supply. We’re going to order the hardwood in bulk (500 board feet) but the plywood we only needed 10 sheets so we picked that up and rushed home before the rain! Then we headed over to Brookline with our moldings to see if they could replicate them for us. Luckily for a knife fee they can! So we left that with them and plan to call in an order for the exact number and lengths of boards we need for moldings.

Finally we ended with a trip to home depot to get some wood to build some shelves in the basement to store our new plywood. Unfortunately by now it was raining so it was a rush home and unload job for sure. We spent the rest of the day in the basement, Ryan building the new shelving unit while I cleaned up the basement so I could help out when he needed me.

Saturday night I also got another coat of spackle done – I finished the wall corners first coat and got a third coat on the wall seams and screws so the wall seams are now finished and I just need to get the corners and ceiling done!

Saturday night - still wet

Wall seams finished (and dry)

Sunday we headed out shopping again – this time for some suits for Ryan and jeans for me. Then once home I set up the tvroom to strip the moldings/casings we plan to reuse. They are very detailed but I finally got a system together that is working out well. I even have some pictures of the “finished” pieces – I got 2 pieces done – I’m not even going to say how many we need to do total!

Step two: Paint stripper to get the rest off
All finished stripping - time to fill nails and give a quick sand

See – LONG weekend. I also finished my book this weekend – “The Dead Travel Fast” by Deanna Raybourn – it was awesome! And I love my kindle 🙂

Another coat

Last night was a late night getting home, by the time we had eaten dinner it was already 9pm but I started working on the ceiling. I got the ceiling double screwed (which is no easy feat for me since I can barely reach it!).
Then I got the first coat on the wall seams and got the top half of the wall screws with the second coat. So the walls have a coat on them now and hopefully tonight I can tape the ceiling seams.

First coat on seams done!

Corners taped!

I got home a little later than the night before but I still had a good hour to do some taping. Ryan helped me move all the tile out of the gym so I can use the scaffolding in there now. Then I taped the corners and hit the bottom section of wall screws with a second coat quick after that.

Another corner taped

Tonight I hope to hit the ceiling! It still needs to be double screwed so I’ll see if Ryan can help with it. I’d also like to get a first coat on the wall seams since the corners will be dry.

Started the Gym taping!

Last night after work (and dinner) I started taping the gym. This involved tightening 90% of the screws first, then spackling the screws and finally taping the seams. The ceilings will have to wait because the tile is still in that room and needs to be moved before I can reach part of the ceiling.
I’m hoping to tape the corners tonight and get a second coat on the screws.

Bathroom Drywall is up!

We had a very busy Sunday today.

We got the drywall up in the bathroom finally.  We had to make some framing changes for the doorway – Ryan got started on that bright and early this morning.  Then we moved on to getting the drywall up which took the rest of the day.  Finally the extra drywall is stored in the basement and we can start taping the gym since it’s emptied out now.

First coat of paint – done!

Last night after work, Ryan had a ZBA meeting but I made a quick dinner and got right to painting. It took an hour to do the cutting in, and then another hour to roll the walls. The paint is SO smooth! And I love the color! Ryan came home and was worried it was too dark but I think in the lighter part of the day it wasn’t as dark. Plus this is our entertainment/tv room so I wanted it to be a darker room. With white trim it will look lighter as well.

One more coat to go on both the ceiling and walls!

Walls painted!

the morning after (all dry)

Ceiling painted – coat #1

Monday after work (and after dinner), Ryan and I got the paint out! I cut in around the ceiling and Ryan rolled the ceiling. The color is a little more yellow than we thought but we think it will look really good with the green/grey wall color and the white trim color.

I’m hoping to paint the walls tonight. Then we’ll have a real updated picture. The picture below you can’t really see the ceiling color because it’s close to the primer color.

Priming completed! (On TV Room)

Friday we sanded the ceiling of the tvroom and then I vacuumed it up real good.

Sunday evening we primed the whole room (Ryan did the ceiling and I did the walls).

Ryan also got the last bathroom wall insulated (the wall with the doorway) so we can drywall in there. We’re hoping to start painting during the evenings this week and I might hook up the bathroom electric so we can test it out before we put up the drywall.

Updates!

The renovation pages on the right are finally getting updated – so far the tvroom page has been updated with a journal of just the tv room progress made so far.

Next up will be the bathroom.

Also the tile has arrived!  Ryan picked it up after work this week.  Now we just need to get the bathroom ready for tile so Ryan’s dad can come out and help us tile it up!
