Updates!

The renovation pages on the right are finally getting updated – so far the tvroom page has been updated with a journal of just the tv room progress made so far.

Next up will be the bathroom.

Also the tile has arrived!  Ryan picked it up after work this week.  Now we just need to get the bathroom ready for tile so Ryan’s dad can come out and help us tile it up!

President’s Day Weekend

We had a nice long weekend (well Ryan had to work Sunday and Monday but I had a long weekend!).

By Sunday Morning Ryan had the bathroom cement board just about finished (the window pieces still need to be put in but the walls are ready for just drywall now. Here’s the progress:

Sunday I spackled the final corner coats on the walls and ceiling corners. Then Monday I spent the day sanding the walls. That was a LOT of work and I may have sanded a bit too much but they’re nice and smooth. The ceiling is still lagging behind (needs one coat of spackle on the seams still).

Then Monday night I chose one wall to prime so I could see how the sanding came out. I was concerned that the sanding screens I used were leaving fine lines (directional) from sanding and I wasn’t sure if the primer would cover it or not – luckily it does and the wall came out great! Here is the primed wall:

Tuesday and Wednesday I was SO sore from sanding that no progress has been made since (plus I’m working long hours so I’m not home much) but hopefully this coming weekend we can get the ceiling done so the whole room can be primed.

House Progress

Progress continues, slowly but surely.

Saturday while I was out, Ryan worked on the bathroom. He got the second wall insulated and most of the cement board up. He’s got 1 more large piece of cement board and some small pieces. Then it’s just the green board to finish. I think that’s a goal for this coming 3 day weekend!

Sunday we figured out the amounts and ordered the tile for the bathroom. We’re using marble tiles:
6×6 on the floor
3×6 up the walls (4 ft high) with a decorative tile design across the top
3×6 up the shower walls to the ceiling (matches the floor)
During the super bowl I spackled the corners in the tvroom. Getting step 1 done on 3 of the 5 inside corners and one side of the outside corner. This is the final coat hopefully!

A Normal Weekend

A little time spent with family, a little time spent with friends and a little (or a lot) of time spent working on the house. That’s usually the way of it 😉

Spackling progress made this weekend:
– spackled the right side of the corners (2nd coat)
– spackled the wall side of the upper corners

Ryan also got some insulation in the bathroom up, that’s going pretty well (one wall almost done!)

What’s left now??
– 1 coat on ceiling screws {done}
– 2 coats on ceiling seams {1 done}
– 1 coat on ceiling side of upper corners {done}
– 1 coat on corners (left and right) {done}
– touch ups and sanding {done on walls/not ceilings}

3 day weekend

This weekend we headed back to NY for a friend’s PHD graduation party on Saturday. We got a later start back on Sunday than planned so just relaxed Sunday evening.

Monday however we got some work around the house done. In the morning we taped the upper corners in the tvroom finally so now that entire room as tape up!

Later in the day once it was dry I then spackled the left hand side of all the corners and did the final coat on all the wall seams.

Unfortunately the ceiling is lagging behind because we need either both of us or Ryan to have some time, I can’t do those myself.

We got some fiberglass free insulation for the bathroom walls (sound proofing) today as neither of us were looking forward to cutting and messing with the fiberglass insulation.

We bought a truck

And we worked on the house 🙂
Saturday we got the first real coat on the seams (walls only) completed and the third coat on the screws (walls only).  Then we did the left side first coat of the corners.

Sunday I did the right side of the corners and some cleanup (as well as finally dusting and vacuuming the WHOLE house – which was very much needed!)

The rest of saturday was spent out shopping for a new truck (trading in the BMW).  We were actually going to buy a 2009 and had a few picked out but with 30,000 miles usually on them it was smarter to go with the new tuck – no miles – for only 1000 more.  We bought a 2010 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport in Silver.  It’s a 4 door (double cab) with an extended bed.  We should be able to even pick it up tonight!
: We picked up the truck Monday night and here’s a picture from Tuesday as it’s warming up!

Vacation – to work on the house!

This week found us home to work on the house all week and there was plenty to do!

We started by taping the seams in the TV Room and spackling the screws.

Then we repeated this process on all seams and screws (walls and ceilings).

Then we worked on getting the bathroom ready – some electrical wiring needed to be done.  We purchased sconces for the bathroom vanity lighting and put up boxes for them and wired them.

Next up we worked on putting up hardibacker on the exterior wall of the bath (shower) – this was a VERY slow process since we had a hand tool for scoring the cement board.  By Friday evening the exterior wall was at least completed. – Here’s an in progress picture:

Friday we also taped the corners of the tv room (inside and the one outside corner).

This coming weekend is a family weekend celebrating xmas so no more house work will get done until the following weekend!

Xmas weekend

This weekend found us back home with family, no working on the house, no working in general, it was very relaxing.

Now we are fully recovered from work stress and ready to enjoy our vacation this coming week by working on the house!  Taping and spackling to be exact 🙂

I had a very high tech Christmas this year – Ryan got me a Kindle reader which I was very excited to start playing with right away and I plan to go look for a new book to read on it shortly!  My parents got me a photo printer that prints 12×12 size pages for scrapbooking!  My in-laws got me preserving supplies so I can make jams/jellies and sauces this coming summer – I’m VERY excited about that.

The entertainment over the long weekend consisted mostly of new Wii games.  My sister got Band Hero which we tried out right away and my parents got Rock Band 2 and Beatles Rockband which also got some major play time.  My brother got Mario Brothers which is great multiplayer and we tried out the Hasbro Family Game Night (1 and 2)  when we were sick of playing music.  Fun was had by all.

Tomorrow we head home early to unpack and relax and prep for working on the house come Monday!

Drywall is Up!!

What a transformation! My parents came out Friday at 1:30 to be here for the drywall delivery. We did some prep work on the electrical (although I was up until 2am on Thursday night getting things as prepped as I could).

Drywall came around 2:30 and by evening we had the TV Room ceiling and exterior wall done!

Saturday we got up early and by dinner time the TV Room, and Gym were completely drywalled (minus the closet). The ceiling in the bathroom was also done!

Sunday Ryan added extra screws to the ceiling while I tightened all the screws in the walls that needed it. Then we started spackling in the TV Room and taped a few seams. Most of the taping will happen the week after xmas since we are taking it off but it was good to get a feel for what we’re in for!
